For the last three years Mogilev Oblast’s trade with China has been rapidly rising. The export of beef alone increased by nine times over the course of one year. The figures were mentioned by Deputy Chairman of the Economy Committee of the Mogilev Oblast Executive Committee Pavel Marinenko during the first Belarusian-Chinese Regional Cooperation Week in Mogilev on 5 September, BelTA has learned.
The official said that Mogilev Oblast cooperates with 116 countries. China is one of the key strategic partners of this region of Belarus. Such interregional relations are the best tool for enhancing foreign economic cooperation between Belarus and China.
Mogilev Oblast enterprises have sufficient experience of Belarusian-Chinese cooperation. They have adapted their products to meet requirements of Chinese customers many times. By the way, a number of enterprises have already been certified by Chinese authorities to export food to China.
As for tourism potential, in January-July 2019 the export of tourism services from Mogilev Oblast to China rose by about 40% from the same period of last year. Chinese tourists are attracted by distinctive Belarusian nature, in particular, farm stays, as well as tourism programs focusing on historical and cultural legacy.
At present Mogilev Oblast has five partners in China – Jiangsu Province, Henan Province, Hunan Province, Shaanxi Province, and the city of Tianjin. The first agreement on interregional cooperation was signed with Henan Province in 2003. According to Pavel Marinenko, relations with each partner advance along several avenues. The sides are interested in cooperation in healthcare and education, industrial sector, tourism, and interregional exchange.
The first Belarusian-Chinese Regional Cooperation Week is an introductory one. It is supposed to secure relations, find new contact points. However, the partners look forward to tighter cooperation next year. Plans have been made for Mogilev to host individual days dedicated to each province and the city of Tianjin.
