Belarus, Indonesia to boost cooperation in trade, investment

MINSK, 18 October (BelTA) – Belarus and Indonesia will intensify trade, economic, and investment cooperation. The relevant agreement was signed during the working visit of a Belarusian delegation led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrei Dapkiunas to Indonesia, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“The sixth session of the Belarusian-Indonesian intergovernmental commission on trade, economic, and technical cooperation was held in Jakarta. The sides agreed to expand bilateral trade, economic, and investment cooperation, and also discussed the prospects for augmenting the supplies of MAZ, BelAZ, and MTZ products to Indonesia,” the press service noted.

Indonesia intends to complete domestic procedures, required for the intergovernmental agreement for the avoidance of double taxation to come into effect, in the near future. The document was signed in March 2017 during the visit of Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko to Indonesia. The Belarusian-Indonesian commission also agreed to resume work on a draft intergovernmental agreement on assistance to and mutual protection of investment projects.

One result of the effort to prepare for the session was Resolution of Indonesia’s Agriculture Ministry of 10 October 2017 to permit Brest- and Pinsk-based OAO Savushkin Product enterprises to export dairy goods to the country.

The intergovernmental commission also decided to form working groups on industrial and agricultural cooperation.

As for cooperation in science and technology, the commission supported the effort of both countries’ relevant government bodies and agencies to arrange the second session of the Belarusian-Indonesian working group on cooperation in science, technology, and higher education in Minsk by the year-end.
