Mogilev invites tourists to take a stroll with Emperor Nicholas II
MOGILEV, 5 January (BelTA) – Mogilevobltourist travel company is preparing a new tourist route “A stroll with Nicholas II around Mogilev”, BelTA learned from Mogilevobltourist director Yelena Karpenko.
Nicholas II had many ties with Mogilev. In August 1915, Stavka (the high command of the Armed Forces in the Russian Empire) was re-located from Baranovichi to Mogilev. Thus Mogilev, we can say, became a temporary residence of the Tsar family. The Emperor loved to make walks on foot or by car around the city and its surroundings. Mogilevobltourist will invite its guests to see the places that Nicholas II often visited. It will be a full 3 to 4-hour excursion that will be launched in the spring of 2017. In the meantime, tourists are offered an opportunity to have a short talk with the Emperor and to take pictures.
History teacher and certified tour guide Andrei Makayev will perform the role of the Emperor. He will be wearing a stylized military suit of Colonel. He will welcome guests at the Regional History Museum which housed the Duty General Office. The Emperor will tell visitors about Stavka, the main events of that period and give a small tour of Slavy (Glory) Square. In the future, the tour will include an opportunity to have a cup of tea with Nicholas II and watch documentary military newsreels.
A group of Russian tourists were the first to meet with Nicholas II as part of a sightseeing tour of Mogilev. “For the first time, we have tested a tour with elements of theatrical entertainment. The tour is a result of our attempt to look at Mogilev and its history through the eyes of the Emperor and Saint (in the early 21st century, the Emperor and his family were proclaimed passion-bearers by the Russian Orthodox Church). Five groups of Russian tourists have already booked the tour with Nicholas II during the Christmas and New Year holidays,” Yelena Karpenko said.
