Belarus’ high-level delegation pays visit to U.S.

MINSK, 12 December (BelTA) – A high-level economic delegation of Belarus paid a visit to Washington D.C. on 6-10 December on the invitation of the U.S. Department of State, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The delegation comprised Deputy Head of the Belarus President’s Administration Nikolai Snopkov, Belarus President’s Aide Vsevolod Yanchevsky, representatives of the National Bank, the Finance Ministry, the Economy Ministry and other ministries and agencies.

The Belarusian delegation held talks in a number of the U.S. key government agencies: the Department of State, Department of Commerce, Office of the United States Trade Representative, Federal Communications Commission, Department of Agriculture, U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).

The parties discussed economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two countries and reached preliminary agreements to intensify bilateral interaction in finances and investment, high technology, agriculture and energy.

The Belarusian delegation met with representatives of the association for private capital in emerging markets, big U.S. corporations Microsoft, AGCO, Case New Holland and others. A number of investment projects for Belarus were discussed during the meetings.

During the visit the Belarusian delegation held talks with IMF Deputy Managing Director Mitsuhiro Furusawa to discuss the preparation of the IMF program for Belarus.

The Belarusian delegation visited Microsoft’s technological center to talk over the preparations for an agreement on strategic cooperation between Microsoft and Belarus. The agreement envisages a number of projects on the implementation of the latest technological solutions in healthcare, agriculture, logistics and management systems.

The meetings demonstrated the readiness of both the parties to enter a new, higher level of economic and investment cooperation.
