Lukashenko: Belarus increasingly perceived as island of stability in the region

MINSK, 21 November (BelTA) – Belarus is increasingly perceived as an island of stability in the region, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said as he met with the delegation of the Political and Security Committee of the Council of the European Union on 21 November, BelTA has learned.

“Belarus is increasingly perceived as an island of stability in the region. There is nothing surprising in this. Our country is the only of six member states of the Eastern Partnership initiative where there are no military or frozen conflicts,” the head of state said. “I think it is very interesting, beneficial, and important for the European Union.”

Alexander Lukashenko noted that as a neighbor of the EU with the shared border of about 1,200km Belarus makes a big contribution to the fight against organized crime, illegal migration, and human trafficking. “Thanks to its constructive initiatives Minsk has, in fact, turned into an ideal negotiations platform in the regulation of the Ukrainian crisis. I am convinced that in the modern conditions the role of Belarus as a stabilizing factor in Europe will acquire more importance. It is essential for Europe. Europe can always take advantage of this,” the head of state said.
