Around 8,000 Russians in Mogilev oblast to cast votes during elections to State Duma

Around 8,000 Russian citizens will be able to cast their votes during elections to the State Duma of the Russian Federation in the Mogilev oblast, First Secretary of the Russian Federation Embassy in Belarus Andrei Tikhomirov said as he met with Mogilev Oblast Vice Governor Alexander Dubko in Mogilev on November 9. Initiated by the Russian side, the meeting tabled issues regarding preparations for and holding the elections to the State Duma. The diplomat thanked the oblast administration for the premises given to the polling station in the lyceum of the Belarusian-Russian University. He asked for assistance with organising the work of the polling station commission on the election day, December 2, and asked to use local mass media to inform Russian citizens about where and how the voting will take place. “We would like to get as many Russian citizens as possible to cast their votes,” stressed Andrei Tikhomirov. In his words, during the previous election the voter turnout totalled only 5% of the number of Russians living in the Mogilev oblast. The First Secretary of the Russian Embassy also said, Counsellor of the Russian Embassy Andrei Kuznetsov had been elected chairman of the Mogilev oblast electoral district. The polling station will open in Mogilev at 8:00, December 2, to stay open till 20:00. In turn, Mogilev Oblast Vice Governor Alexander Dubko promised every kind of aid in organising and holding the elections. He tasked corresponding agencies with ensuring information support across the oblast and with arranging additional intercity mass transit routes on the election day to allow Russian citizens from remote areas to get to the polling station without problems.
