MOGILEV, 20 November (BelTA) – The Mogilev Regional Puppet Theater will participate in the International Music and Theater Festival JULA in Munich. In Germany, the Mogilev theater will show Hamlet directed by Igor Kazakov, the Grand Prix winner won at the 8th International Youth Theater Forum M@rt. contact 2013, BelTA learned from the administration of the theater.
The production was premiered on 15 December 2012. The performance was the first attempt in Belarus to stage William Shakespeare’s tragedy on the stage of a puppet theater. It has been nominated for the National Theater Award this year. According to many critics, the production of the Mogilev theater breaks the lasting stereotype that there is no experimental theater in Belarus. The production is universal, as it is emotionally interesting both for professional theatergoers and regular people. Igor Kazakov has created a vivid image of the contemporary Hamlet demonstrating the behavior, ideas and emotions of a whole generation.
The International Music and Theater Festival JULA in Munich has been held annually in Munich from 2004. It was designed as a one-day site for small theater projects with Eastern European topics. Over years the festival has turned into a five-day event with a varied and rich program. The festival also features theater master classes and concerts of popular Eastern European groups, an international photo exhibition and a program of short films by young directors. The event has been organized by the Union of Russian-Speaking Youth of Germany JunOste. V. and the public organization “German Youth in Europe”.
This year the festival will be running at the LEO 17 theater from 19 to 23 November. The program features theaters from Russia, Ukraine, Germany, and Israel. Belarus will be represented by the Mogilev Regional Puppet Theater and the Minsk Theater Kartonka with the Magic Crayon performance.
