Mogilev to host Union State Spartakiade on 23-28 November

MOGILEV, 23 November (BelTA) – The Union State Spartakiade, Olympic Youth 2010, will take place in Mogilev on 23-28 November. The youngsters will compete in volleyball, basketball and ice hockey, BelTA learnt from the department for physical education, sports and tourism of the Mogilev Oblast executive committee. Partaking in the contest will be 17 teams and more than 200 young athletes. Belarus will be represented by all Belarusian regions apart from Vitebsk Oblast. Young volleyball players will come to Belarus from Pskov, Ryazan and Tambov Oblasts, basketball players – from Penza, Smolensk and Pskov Oblasts. The Russian ice hockey team comprising young sportsmen from Ryazan, Tambov and Vologda Oblasts will meet young hockey players from Mogilev, Minsk and Gomel Oblasts. The competitions will be held in the Ice Palace, the Olimpiyets sports center and the Mogilev House of Sports. The host country has prepared an interesting cultural program for its guests. They will be given a tour of Mogilev, they will also visit zoological gardens and attend a discotheque. The first Union State Spartakiade took place in 2003. Vyborg, Russia, has hosted a Union State Spartakiade, To the Future with Sports, this autumn. “Such meetings are not simply sports competitions. They promote friendship between the two nations, improve partner relations, contribute to the physical education and sports,” the department for physical education, sports and tourism of the Mogilev Oblast executive committee said.
