Postmark “Belarusian Written Language Day in Bykhov” to be released into circulation on 5 August

MOGILEV, 25 July (BelTA) – An artistic envelope with a designer postmark “Belarusian Written Language Day in Bykhov” will be released into circulation on 5 August, BelTA learnt from the Mogilev branch of Belpochta.

Some 30,000 copies of the envelope will be made. The envelope displays Bykhov landmarks. Its design is crowned with a coat of arms of the town. An ancient book and an inkpot with a pen are depicted at the bottom of the envelope against the alphabet from the ABC Book by Spiridon Sobol. In the center of the envelope is the inscription “Belarusian Written Language Day in Bykhov”. The A class postmark depicting a book printer in an ancient printing house can be used to send a regular letter weighing under 20g within the territory of Belarus. The mark will be cancelled at a solemn ceremony in post office No. 2 in Bykhov on 1 September. The envelope and the postmark were designed by Belarusian artist Nikolai Ryzhy.

The Belarusian Written Language Day is a national holiday that has been celebrated on the first Sunday of September since 1994. The holiday aims to promote the best traditions of the national culture, book publishing and spiritual legacy of the Belarusian people. The Belarusian Written Language Day is held in towns that shaped Belarusian culture, science, literature and book publishing. Polotsk was the first town to host the celebrations. It was followed by Novogrudok, Turov, Nesvizh, Orsha, Pinsk, Mstislavl, Mir, Kamenets, Postavy, Zaslavl, Khoiniki, Gantsevichi and Glubokoye. This year the Belarusian Written Language Day will be held in Bykhov, Mogilev Oblast.
