Ambrazevich: Integration processes should steer clear of unnecessary, dangerous confrontation

MINSK, 27 April (BelTA) – Belarus is interested in successful cooperation with its eastern and western neighbors both in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the European Union (EU), Belarus’ Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva Yuri Ambrazevich said during the 67th session of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The head of the Belarusian delegation laid out Belarus’ strategic vision for the UNECE’s contribution, place and role in promoting economic integration and cooperation in the pan-European region through 2030.

According to the Belarusian permanent representative, one of the key results of the international conference “Laying the foundation in the UNECE region for economic integration and sustainable development towards 2030”, which took place in Minsk in 2016, was a growing understanding of the fact that the European region should pay more attention to the cooperation between the integration economic formations. Yuri Ambrazevich called upon the UNECE to help understand that integration processes should avoid any unnecessary and dangerous confrontation, and stay aimed at compatibility and complementarity. “Belarus is interested in the successful cooperation with its eastern and western neighbors both in the EAEU and EU,” the diplomat said.

Yuri Ambrazevich invited all the stakeholders to take part in an international conference on interrelations and compatibility in the Central-European Initiative region. The conference is due in Minsk in June 2017.

The head of the Belarusian delegation expressed confidence that the idea of developing a global platform for discussing the processes of cooperation between the regional integration associations, voiced by the President of Belarus at the UN summit in New York in 2015, will acquire its practical shape of a concrete international event in the near future. The UNECE has been invited to be among its co-organizers.
