VITEBSK, 9 July (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko revers the art festival Slavonic Bazaar in Vitebsk, which performs an important peacemaking mission through art and friendship along with other political, economic, and other events. The statement was made by Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Natalia Kochanova during the press conference held on 9 July to highlight the opening of the art festival Slavonic Bazaar in Vitebsk, BelTA has learned.
“This international event has been traditionally held under the aegis of our head of state Alexander Grigoryevich Lukashenko. Unfortunately, today he cannot be present in person during the opening ceremony because he is in the Russian city of Ufa where important and significant events are taking place. This is why the tradition has been slightly broken yet all the events have been adjusted. The head of state has always practiced a very serious and reverent attitude to this important event. Today we are going to hear his video address and hope that he will be present in person during the closing ceremony,” explained the Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus.
As the head of the organizing committee Natalia Kochanova underlined that the organizers had tried to preserve the current traditions of the forum while adding something new taking into account the fact that the year 2015 has been declared the Year of Youth in Belarus and the fact that it is the year of the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory. A huge number of guests are expected to take part in the festival this year. Representatives of 41 countries have arrived. The geography of the event extends far beyond limits of the European continent.
Alexander Sidorenko, director of the festival, Director General of the culture center Vitebsk, explained that they had expected the number of countries to be 42 but one of the participants decided not to come at the eleventh hour citing poor health reasons. Alexander Sidorenko told media that this year’s program of the festival is saturated with events for young people, many new popular names will feature in concerts. Speaking about the lack of movies, Alexander Sidorenko explained that it is inadvisable to develop this avenue for now due to the emergence of a high number of movie festivals that attract their own audience.
This year’s festival costs over Br53 billion, with the bulk of the money coming from sources other than the state budget. Alexander Sidorenko assured that this year the festival has never been closer to paying its way.
The 24th international festival Slavonic Bazaar in Vitebsk is scheduled to open in the capital city of Vitebsk Oblast on 9 July. The festival will take place on 9-13 July as well as 7, 8, 14, and 15 July. It will feature over 100 events. The novelties include a street art show, a presentation of brands of Belarusian towns and districts, and the organization of national farmsteads.
