Call to abolish confiscation of goods as a penalty in Belarus
MINSK, 28 February (BelTA) - Belarus can abolish such measure as confiscation of goods as punishment of business, Valery Borodenya, a member of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly, said in an interview with the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA has learned.
“In European countries there is no penalty as confiscation. I would keep in place such measure as vehicle confiscation for repeated DIU during a year. It works; it saves lives. As regards business, maybe we should consider abolishing this measure and use only fines instead,” Valery Borodenya noted.
Piotr Arushanyants, the Director of the Entrepreneurship Department at the Economy Ministry, concurred with the proposal. “We need to give up on such penalty as confiscation of goods and simplify the legislation as much as possible,” he believes.
